Some of the alternative interfaces for #Mastodon are pretty interesting. Check out these two:

#Halcyon: notabug.org/halcyon-suite/halc

#Pinafore: pinafore.social

If you're not enjoying the default site, maybe one of those will fit you better!

What makes #Mastodon so exciting is it’s not a single commercial service run by a corporation—it’s simply open source software using open protocols that anyone can install on their own server. Just like email isn’t owned by any one company, federated social networks allow online messaging and following/follower relationships using the beauty and power of the open web.

I talk about all this and much more in the Mastodon special of the my podcast! Listen here:

I've been working with Ruby (and Rails) for almost 14 years. A few old folks might remember me from robbyonrails.com/ (and some know me from creating @ohmyzsh).

During the week, I run Planet Argon... we help companies who have already made a deep investment into Ruby on Rails with ongoing support/upgrades/maintenance. planetargon.com/

p.s. you may have seen this photo I took, too. (Canada on Rails, April 2006)

Hey folks! Welcome to ruby.social! 🎉

I'm hoping this will become a good, friendly community for Ruby-folks to chat and discover new friends. But for that to happen, you need to sign up!

I don't know what to do about Brexit, so for the 2nd time I'm going to peacefully sit out to spread the message that Brexit doesn't add up:

👉 Parliament Sq, this Wednesday (Aug 22nd), 6.30pm-8pm

Come join me. I'll be planning how to get the word out, and here's why:

Ok, maybe I spoke too soon. Turns out if you haven't got your mail domains set up a day in advance _and_ make the account private, notifications break. Still, at least I can poke into the console to see that it's happening...

Kicking the tires on a private Mastodon instance. If the point is federation then... let's federate?
